Sad Cone Kitty

  • Dec. 2nd, 2009 at 3:37 PM
I came home from a meeting to find Eisley with only one open and seemingly unable to open the other one, so off to the emergency vet we went. Poor baby has a huge corneal ulcer and is stuck in an e-collar for the foreseeable future. I've had a corneal ulcer before, and those suckers hurt! Poor Eisley.

Writer's Block: Smoke screen

  • Dec. 2nd, 2009 at 7:44 AM

What are your feelings towards smoking? What rights do you think smokers and non-smokers should have?

I have no issues with nicotine addiction.

What I DO have issue with is the most popular way of imbibing that nicotine - the cigarette (and secondarily, anything that gives off smoke).

Smoke gets EVERYWHERE! Cigarette smoke STINKS and clings and is poisonous. I DO NOT want to have to breathe it in or even smell it, alas, if I choose to breathe in public, I probably will breathe it in. I resent this.

Did you know that cigarette butts make up over 50% of the litter stream in W.A.?? (My source is the latest DEC Environment and Conservation News). They start bushfires. Each is a small morsel of toxic waste and they are often eaten by animals. For some reason a large majority of smokers think it's perfectly okay to just ditch their butts wherever.

Cigarettes are awful. The creation of toxic smoke anyone in the vicinity has to deal with for the sake of an addiction pisses me off.

So much I even created a community for it - [info]anti_smoking

Cat Food

  • Dec. 1st, 2009 at 2:47 PM
Can anyone recommend a good cat food. My cats are ALWAYS acting like they are starving, and by no means are they under weight..they are not over weight either..
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks! :)

Fort Collins Cat Rescue Journal #31:

Thanksgiving break has definitely put me behind again with updates! I will try to catch up in the next few days, with enough photos to fill several entries! These won't be in any particular order because all of my files have been jumbled up together!

I'm trying to think if I have anything important that happened in the last few times I was there. Not a whole lot, fortunately, although we did have a return on Sunday. Gato was adopted out on FRIDAY and then brought back not 48 hours later. I had to just stay away from these people because I probably would have yelled at them, and the rescue tries to be nice even to the asshats (to a point). These people essentially brought this cat home and dumped her on the floor of their house. This cat spent most of her life in a 400 square foot apartment with 11 other cats. She's never seen a room bigger than that. Obviously she FREAKED OUT being in a huge house with only one other cat who also freaked out because they were just dumped together.

The lady went on and on about how they were such good cat owners and how Gato is just insane and she was attacking the furniture and pinwheeling them with her claws when they kept trying to pick up this obviously now traumatized cat. I'm standing there literally like O_o while this woman just rambles on and on, screaming at us when the M tries to say something.

I quickly put together a kennel in the isolation room for Gato (we had no warning the were coming and all our empty kennels are dirty from moving cats around), and I'm just hanging out in the back with her. She was still very freaked out, but she knows me and she was much calmer than when the asshat man let her out of the kennel onto the shelter floor. Wtf you don't just let a cat onto the floor of a rescue!

Then of course the woman wants to TRADE for a different cat. I'm sorry, but I had hoped the director would have said no when we called her. I put down $5 that the new cat will be back in a week. They picked Angel, a 5 month old kitten who has a tendency to use her claws and can be rather mouthy. *headdesk* I wish I had more say, but we told them exactly what she was like (and ironically Angel came from the same apartment as Gato!!) and really couldn't do more than that to change their mind. I have no doubt their just going to throw the cats together again, and their current cat will probably be even more freaked out now than he was originally.

We're just going to move on from that. I had to go snuggle with Gato's family in the adoption room (Dopey, Wally, Yoda, Peanut, Annie, and Beaver are all in there now) to keep from strangling people. Haha.

Cats that have been adopted since my last update: Hans, Ellie, Angel, Thelma, Gunnison, Flower, Cutie Pie!, Linxi and Tiger Lily, Smudge, T.I., Gertie (who was one of the cats who's name I couldn't remember a couple entries ago), Enzio, Augustus, Venus (again!), and Gus. Probably more too, but I'm a space case.

Lucca says, "can't a guy get some lounge time in before you start taking those pictures?!". :)

Ow my back!

  • Dec. 1st, 2009 at 3:30 PM
The muscles beside my spine from just below my ribs almost to my hips really hurt.

Could Wiiboxing have caused this? Will it go away? Is it cause for concern?

Owies. :(

The New Box Remains Popular!

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 10:42 PM
Poor Eisley -- once again she was enjoying a snooze in the box that I can't put in the recycling bin because the cats love it so when her space was invaded. This time, it was not a fluffy grey kitty invader, but a Snuggle Monster who only today discovered the joys of the box.

Photobucket

Eisley deserved a good box snooze as she had to have blood drawn today and her veins weren't cooperating, so it took four tries to get all the blood needed. Poor thing. The results were great though! (She has to have her blood checked every few months to make sure the meds. she takes for her heart disease aren't impacting her kidneys.)

and a happy calico girl and mama's boy... )

Just me Angel posting from now on...

Peppy has been heaven with the other cat that lived before us for a long time, so I do my best to live on and love Mommy and her parent humans for two cats. It can be very busy for me these days!

It gets a little lonely when Mommy goes to work. Yes, the human Tom is there, but he sleeps a lot and watches the moving picture box too much and won't let me sit in his lap as much as Mommy lets me sit in hers. Linda I pretty much don't go near, 'cause she doesn't seem to like me very much. I dunno why, but I'm alright with two out of the three to love me, feed me, give me treats every morning, and clean by litter box. It's tons better than getting no lovins and stuff at all!

Mommy wants a new mattress for her bed, and has been sleeping somewhere else, in a room downstairs where the door is closed. Christmas is coming, so maybe we can sleep in the same bed by then! She won't let me sleep on her, but she lets me sleep near her.

air freshener

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 2:59 PM
hi, everyone!

in the past, i researched an air freshener that was very unique. it gave off a scent that imitated a cat's scent glands. this made the cat not want to urinate in the area. does anyone know what this product is? i can't remember what it's called for the life of me.

thanks! :)

Hello

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 4:37 PM
I just came across this community by chance and I really think you guys can help me.

My boyfriend and I are moving to a new place soon and we really want to adopt a kitten, but so far the search has been fruitless.

I live on Long Island and we're moving near Holbrook, NY. So if anyone has found, knows of, or has even the slightest hunch of where to rescue a little kitten from, please let me know.

I can be contacted through LJ or E-Mail: krzykat525@aol.com

My name is Kathleen, by the way =)

I need advice for a friend...

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 6:35 PM
Hello!

So long no posting here, but I watch all your lovely kitties. They cheers my days :D
Thank your for that!

I have a friend who has a problem with her neighbor spoiled cat. She leaves her window open and the cat wreaks havoc on their neighborhood, so I'd like to know if there is a natural and simple method to keep it away (mostly for my friend's parrot).

I attached my friend's story:

In the cut, follow me! )

You see, she is not very fond of cats, is more a dog person, but do not want to hurt him and I appreciate that she cares about that. That's why I'd like to help ... Any suggestions are very welcome,
Thank you!

And to make it legal, I leave a picture of my cat Runrun:

I had to go to the vet!

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 10:35 AM

DSCF0503, originally uploaded by mungo181.

yesterday, I forget to ask the FB for dinner! Then today, Hank had to get her up for breakfast, like the olden days! and i barely et any snacks. i think it's because Frankie makes me angry. but FB insistitate on vetting me. I was asked many questions by the secret service, like have I traveled outside of the country? What's the deal with your Canadian boyfriend? Why are you so well-versed in robotology? What newspapers do you read? ALL OF THEM! WHATEVER THEY PUT IN FRONT OF ME!! I passed, but I had to go to the vet anyway. I WAS 8.5 POUNDS. I am too skinny! I need a sammich, peeps! I think I was like 11 pounds last I checked! The doctor, who of course said I was very pretty, said I might have an OVERACTIVE thyroid. That's the opp of the FB, who is underactive. Does that mean she is my nemesis? probably. Anyway, I am feeling much better already. My minions made a snackrifice in my honor. Tomorrow I get my test results. I bet I passed!
